Year 10 IGCSE Geography Fieldwork: Investigating Land Use Conflicts and Tourism Impacts
As part of the IGCSE Geography course, Year 10 students will conduct fieldwork at the harbour to investigate conflicting land uses and the impacts of tourism in the area. The harbour serves as an ideal location for this study, as it is a mixed-use space where tourism, fishing, residential areas, restaurants, and shops compete for space and resources.
During the fieldwork, students will observe how these different land uses interact, identify areas of conflict—such as overcrowding, noise, and competition for land—and assess the effects of tourism on the local environment, economy, and community.
By carrying out land use mapping, environmental quality surveys, and pedestrian counts, students will develop a deeper understanding of how tourism shapes urban areas and the challenges it presents for sustainable management
