Year 11 AS Level Geography Fieldwork: Comparing Urban Land Use.
As part of the AS Level Geography curriculum, Year 11 students will conduct a fieldwork investigation comparing land use in two contrasting urban areas: Liman (the harbour) and Zeytinlik (a suburban residential area). This study aims to enhance students’ understanding of how land use, environmental quality, and human activity differ between a bustling, tourist-oriented city center and a quieter suburban neighborhood.
In Liman, students will examine the influence of tourism and commercial activity on land use, while in Zeytinlik, they will explore how residential patterns and local services shape the urban environment.
During the fieldwork, students will collect primary data through land use mapping, pedestrian and traffic counts, and environmental quality surveys. This hands-on approach will enable them to directly compare the characteristics of these two areas and apply their geographical knowledge to real-world settings.
